Le Laboratoire des Bioprocédés Environnementaux (LBPE) a débuté comme « Unité de Bioénergie » en Mai 1993. La structure a évolué en laboratoire de recherche depuis Novembre 2002. Le LBPE a été un « Pôle d’Excellence Régional AUF dans le domaine des Bioprocédés Environnementaux » durant la période 2007-2012 et il est partenaire dans le Laboratoire Mixte International (LMI COSYS-MED), depuis 2014. 

L’objectif général du programme de recherche du LBPE est de maîtriser les processus de dégradation de la matière organique dans les biotopes anaérobies ou aérobies et de mettre en œuvre des systèmes biologiques (bactéries, champignons, microalgues, consortiums ; enzymes) à hautes potentialités biotechnologiques, pour le traitement et la valorisation des rejets et des résidus agro-industriels. Nos travaux se focalisent sur l’exploitation de ces systèmes biologiques pour la bioconversion, la biodégradation et la bioremédiation de plusieurs rejets (solides, liquides ou gazeux) urbains et industriels, ainsi que pour la réutilisation et la réhabilitation de sites pollués. L’équipe tente d’associer une activité à haute valeur ajoutée à des procédés de dépollution classique.

Dans le cadre de l’ouverture sur son environnement socio-économique, le personnel du LBPE effectue, à la demande des prestataires de service, des travaux de traitement/dépollution, d'analyses physico-chimiques, chromatographiques, spectroscopiques et microbiologiques (voir catalogue analytique et offres de services du laboratoire), ainsi que des expertises et présente les solutions adéquates aux problèmes posés. Il offre son expertise multidisciplinaire pour le développement et la mise à l'échelle des bioprocédés environnementaux, ainsi que la récupération, la purification et la caractérisation de divers dérivés et composés à haute valeur ajoutée. Le laboratoire LBPE a été accrédité en Mai 2024 selon la norme internationale ISO 17025 (2017). Cette accréditation (lien pdf accréditation LBPE) accréditation représente un gage de compétence technique, de conformité aux normes et de sérieux dans la réalisation d'analyses et d'essais. Depuis sa certification QSE en 2021, il a maintenu un taux de satisfaction client, qui représente un indicateur de performance de son processus VTT, supérieur à la valeur cible de 75%.

Comme prestations de services présentées par le laboratoire LBPE, nous pouvons citer :

Analyses physico-chimiques: pH, conductivité, salinité, oxygène dissous, alcalinité, viscosité, turbidité, DCO, DBO5, azote, phosphore, matière active, matière organique, matière minérale, matière grasse, MS, MES, MVS, hydrocarbures, phénols totaux…

 Analyses microbiologiques : (germes totaux, spécifiques, propriétés désinfectantes,…).
